Welcome to Day Hopping
Plan a smart, time-aware day trip. Pick places, set how long you'll stay at each stop, and let the app build an optimized route for public transit or driving.
Key concepts
- Places: Attractions, cafes, museums — anything you want to visit.
- Time spent: Minutes you plan to spend at each stop.
- Start/End: Where your trip begins and ends.
- Mode: Transit, driving, or mixed.
- Route generation: Builds the best order and travel times between your chosen places.
Quick start
- Go to the "Select" tab.
- Add places: search by name or address, or use nearby suggestions by type (e.g., tourist_attraction, cafe).
- Mark your Start and End locations.
- Choose your travel mode (Transit / Driving / Mixed).
- Set your trip duration and time spent at each stop (or ask our AI to decide in "Location List"!).
- Tap "Optimize Route" to generate a route.
- Review on "Map" and "Location List".
Tip: You need at least 2 places, including start and end, to optimize.
Select
- Interests: Write what you're interested in and let our AI figure out places you may like.
- Search: Use the search box to enter your location and to find and add places.
- Time per place: Edit minutes per stop; start/end time is fixed to 0.
- Reorder: After optimizing, you can tweak the order if needed.
- Remove: Remove places you no longer want in the plan.
Start and end points
- Mark any selected place as Start and another as End.
- Start/End must be different for a valid route.
Travel mode
- Transit: Uses public transportation timings.
- Driving: Uses traffic-aware driving times.
- Mixed: Considers both and balances them.
Map
- On the "Maps" page you can add locations by searching addresses or names.
- When ready, tap "Generate Route".
- Which places to visit given your time constraints, and how to get there with your chosen transportation preferences, will be shown.
Sign in and sign out
- Sign in: Use "Continue with Google" (web uses a popup — allow popups for the site).
- Sign out: Tap the Sign out icon in the "Select" tab header.
- After sign out, the app automatically returns to an anonymous session so you can keep exploring.
Monthly free usage (anonymous)
- Anonymous users can generate up to 3 optimized routes per month.
- You'll see a message if you reach the limit; sign in with Google to continue without the cap.
Troubleshooting
Can't sign in on web
- Enable popups for the site and try again.
Route won't optimize
- Ensure you've set Start and End and added at least 2 places.
- Check your internet connection.
- If you're anonymous, you might have reached the monthly limit (3).
Travel times look odd
- For driving, make sure departure time isn't in the past.
- Transit options depend on current schedules and availability.
Privacy and data
We save only what's needed to make the app work:
- User profile basics (sign-in state).
- Your selected places with time spent (placeId, name, minutes).
- Basic per-place analytics to improve experience.
Tips
- Use clear place names to improve results.
- Adjust time spent to reflect real-world visits.
- Try switching modes (Transit / Driving / Mixed) for different scenarios.
